How to play 2048

Use the arrow keys (or swipe on a touchscreen) to slide every tile in one direction. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one tile with double the value. A new tile — a 2 or a 4 — appears after every move. The goal is to combine tiles up to the 2048 tile, but you can keep going for a higher score after that.

Tips

Pick a corner and keep your biggest tile there — don't chase merges all over the board.
Work in just two directions as much as you can to keep your big tiles anchored.
The game ends only when the board is full and no merges are possible, so plan ahead before it fills up.
