How to play FreeCell

All 52 cards are dealt face-up into eight columns. Your goal is to build the four foundations up by suit from Ace to King. Up top sit four free cells, each able to hold a single card as temporary storage — used well, they let you untangle the whole deal.

The rules

  • Tableau columns build down in alternating colours (a red 8 on a black 9).
  • Any card can move to an empty free cell; only one card fits per cell.
  • Foundations build up by suit from the Ace.
  • You can move an ordered run of cards in one go — the number you can shift depends on how many free cells and empty columns you have spare.

Controls

  • Click a card to pick it up (it highlights along with the ordered run beneath it), then click the destination.
  • Click the selection again to put it back.
  • Double-click a top card to send it straight to its foundation. Your deal auto-saves, so you can finish later.
